ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to assessing the availability and utilization of biology laboratory equipment among senior secondary school students in Gusau metropolis, Zamfara State, Nigeria.  Specifically, the study aims to assess the availability of biology laboratory facilities in the senior secondary schools students in Gusau metropolis, Zamfara state, Nigeria, assess the extent of utilization of biology laboratory facilities in senior secondary schools in students in Gusau metropolis, Zamfara state, Nigeria and assess the relationship between availability, utilization of biology laboratory facilities and students’ academic achievement among students in Gusau metropolis, Zamfara state, Nigeria. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 259 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analyzed, the findings revealed that here is an  availability and utilization of biology laboratory equipment among senior secondary school students in Gusau metropolis, Zamfara State, Nigeria. The study thereby recommend that the government should as a matter of urgency equip all the schools with standard biology laboratories and other material resources. Also, there should also be training and retaining of biology teachers to enable them cope with the challenges of teaching effectively in this 21st century as part of the millennium development goals strategies (MDGS) and science for all Nigerians. Finally, there should be improved welfare packages as a motivating factor for biology teachers in Zamfara State should be adopted and strictly enforced in the developing countries’ construction industry, preferably verified and referenced before payment.
